This is a major release with extensions being the secret sauce. Waiting to see all the magic that developers would create. Apple has done its part, now its up to the app developers :)

I like the idea of accessing VM in a brower. Really helpful if we can integrate something like this into Coursera or Udemy etc. Quick way to code up stuff and test them in real time.

Glad you like it! Yes, that would be a great use case for this. It especially shines is more advanced CS classes, like Coursera's Intro to Recommendation Systems, the Scala course, where something like Eclipse/Intellij would be very useful. And then we're thinking there are other skills like debugging, schema optimization etc. which can also be taught more efficiently on this platform.

Greg, Wouldn't it be a better idea to release the app for free and then use in-app purchases for the numbers? That way you would not scare away the people who just want to download and see what it does. People may argue that $1.49 is nothing, but why lose potential customers.

Per above, we considered that but didn't want to create bad will with a "free" app that didn't do anything until you added more money. (It's also against Apple TOS, though widely flouted.)

In the future we may consider something more along the lines of a free sample.

That would be too much to ask, isn't it :). But you can figure out some pricing from the twilio's website

Hey, give this a try. Let us know if your feedback. Its web based and free right now to try.

Wow!! We hacked up something similar few months back as a side project. Nice validation :). You have some real nice UX and figured out the pricing as well. Best wishes.

nice! what happened with it?

We have been getting some consistent traffic, but need more push to market ourselves. Got real good feedback from both users, friends and HN, but getting the real consumer to use it is the key I guess. You guys figured out the pricing, which is great and being an iphone app you can use the in-app purchasing. We were more web focussed. Also, not generating real phone numbers as you did.

I might still add some more features to it, but thinking about the direction right now :)

We didn't market enough and had some more features in mind to build. But this is a tough market given the fact that people have to remember your app when they actually need it.

Q looks nice, but how could they price it so high with devices like Roku, Apple TV available from $50-$100 range. Also, the main feature of friends adding to the Q is bogus, as we can anyways do it on Apple TV using airplay. As long as I am on same wifi, I can play music from my iPhone at my friend's place as long as he has airplay enabled on his Apple TV and connected to his home theater system

Scott, this is a risk for any idea. We believe that we will make it simple yet have lot of additional features that others don't have. If the service itself tries to implement this, it reinforces that we are solving a real problem :). We have our own business model and will continue to implement on them.

Its a feature thats definitely coming. As you said, our focus is on making the whole process hassle free.

We are using python and django right now.
